Zjramble5: Deity Names

Enable javascript to play this game.

Opera Mini will fail to provide a game experience. This is inherent to the way the Opera Mini Servers treat the Zjramble5 game loop (window.setInterval()). The servers run a handfull of seconds worth of script, then stop, and send you the result. Refer to Opera Mini's documentation for a more detailled explanation.

Oh, and if you can read this, and do have Javascript enabled, chances are either your browser fails to understand CSS, or something went wrong in our programming. Either could render game-play impossible.

How to play

Wait for the game to start. Then study the letters on the letter input grid, and make deity names by stringing together at least 3 letters that touch each other, side-by-side, up-and-down, or diagonally. Then have the name score calculated by hitting enter or double tapping the last letter button. If the name you entered part of this round's vocabulary, and you haven't found it yet during this round, the name score will be added to your game score.

If you enter a letter that does not touch the previous letter, the game assumes you meant to start a new name, and will not score the previous input.

Each round, the game takes about 30 seconds to randomly select which deity names you can find on the grid. As a hint, we present a list of names to find. It shows how many names of differing amounts of letters you can find during this round. When the game runs out, all the names you could have found are shown. Selecting any of those will mark it on the grid.

You can find our deity vocabulary here: Zjramble5 Deity Vocabulary.

Hints

Rotate the grid to discover more words. To rotate the grid, type a space into to word input, or touch the "letter input" text.

Every 10 seconds, you may request a hint. The penalty is a deduction of seconds equal to the length of the word.

Select a word from those you found, to mark its letters on the grid.

After the game is over, the list with words to find will show the actual words you could have found that round. Selecting any word will mark its letters on the grid.

Zjramble5 now integrates with Facebook to share your game scores.

And as for the why...

Zynga publishes a wonderfully popular game called Scramble. You will find it for instance on Facebook.

Unfortunately, Zynga had Scramble coded in Adobe Flash. That choice rendered the game completely unusable on Apple's iPhone, iPad, and other Flash-free devices. Zynga then published an iPhone app for Scramble, that can be used on an iPad too.

As an alternative, OmegaJunior set out to create a version of Scramble, based on pure HTML, some CSS, and quite a bit of Javascript. This version we call Zjramble5.

OmegaJunior intends to have Zjramble5 run cross-platform, cross-browser, in any web browser that supports HTML5, CSS3, and Javascript. (This may rule out Opera Mini, Skyfire, and similar browsers).

Disclaimer

This is a public beta. Expect things to crash, or not work at all.

OmegaJunior did not invent this game. Honours go to Zynga. What you find on this page is merely an html5-representation of their Scramble. It differs from Scramble in that it lacks some functionality and uses its own algorithms and a limited vocabulary. We did not ask for access to the original Scramble coding; instead we rebuilt it based on what we saw.
